The family of companies Exacompta Clairefontaine is a pioneer in the protection of the environment in the paper and paper product industry.
Its product lines: Clairefontaine notebooks, Rhodia pads, Quo Vadis planners, Exacompta journals & filing products, G. Lalo stationery, J- Herbin inks and waxes, Brause calligraphy instruments, and Decopatch papers are all committed to being proactive in making green choices:
PEFC certification: We manufacture our paper from pulp from forests independently certified by PEFC. PEFC forest management is based on environmentally, socially beneficial and economically viable management of forests for present and future generations. PEFC forests are biodiverse, (not tree farms), they are renewable, and nurture the original flora and fauna. PEFC guarantees the rights of indigenous people are protected. By demanding PEFC certified wood and paper products, consumers have the power to bring about true reforestation, not tree farms. (www.PEFC.org)
Energy consumption: Clairefontaine paper mill is 80% off the grid by recycling its own gas and electric power, eliminating toxic gas in the process.
No Chlorine: Our paper is whitened without chlorine, but with a natural mineral, calcium carbonate.
Water: Used water is recycled and eventually cleaned, leaving the mill cleaner than upstream from the mill.
Recycling: Clairefontaine is the first paper mill to use a new technology to recycle formerly non-recyclable by-products.
Here in the US, The Quo Vadis Editions plant is PEFC certified. It means that the chain of evidence between PEFC certified paper and finished planner is maintained throughout the printing and binding process.
Recycled paper is also part of the solution. But all recycled papers are not good for the environment. Too often the amount of energy used, as well as by-products, and chemicals entering in the production process are highly toxic and detrimental to the environment. One of the Group's paper mills, Everbal, produces 100% recycled paper and card stock with new, clean, technology. De-inking is done mechanically, without chemical products. 107 kg of waste paper is transformed into 100 kg of recycled paper. No chlorine or chemical whiteners are used in the manufacturing process.
Exacompta Clairefontaine's engineers are continually looking for new ways and new technologies to protect the environment.
Many of its subsidiaries have obtained environmental certifications: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IMPRIM'VERT, Lloyd's Register Quality assurance, DER BLAUE ANGEL, 100% PAPIER RECYCLE cert.
