Clairefontaine is Europe's only paper manufacturer still producing its own product. Founded in 1858, the factory in Etival-Clairefontaine, France, remains in operation today, a testament to its enduring legacy and committment to quality. Established on the site of a 16th-century paper mill and Cistercian abbey, Papeteries de Clairefontaine began manufacturing traditional stationery in 1880, adding notebooks in 1890. In 1950, the company began producing what has become the iconic lesson book for French schoolchildren, still in use to this day.
Clairefontaine continues to be committed to offering the best quality on the market in all segments. This is achieved by a strict selection of raw mateials from sustainable forests, constantly upgrading production resources to reduce inefficiences, and strict quality control measures to reduce waste and limit variations in the production process.
Today, Clairefontaine is known not only for its notebooks, journals, and stationery, but also for premium fine art materials for all artistic mediums.
